Engraved gifts for men are special, meaningful and personalised gifts that will be kept and treasured by the receiver for a lifetime. Some engraved gifts go on to become family heirlooms that get passed on as a treasured memento for generations to come. It’s a gift that may keep on giving.
Engraved gifts are great for the one you love such as your husband, boyfriend, fiance or partner and also for fathers, grooms, and 18th and 21st birthday gifts and even graduates.
The number one way to make it more a more exclusive gift between the two of you is to have a watch or piece of jewellery engraved with something special or the recipient’s name or a special date you share together such as your anniversary. What makes engraved gifts so special and so unique is the fact that the chances that you’re going to run into another person with the exact same watch and the exact same initials on it, and extremely slim and this makes them extremely personable.
If you’re thinking of buying a new watch and having it engraved or buying a personalised watch for a loved one or friend as a gift then incorporating custom engraving is a sure-fire way to turn your gift into the perfect keepsake.
It’s necessary to step back and take your time before entering your personalised text in the text box or when uploading an image of your handwritten words and pressing the send button. You wouldn’t want to end up with a watch that says ‘Love you, Dab’ instead of ‘Dad.’
Think of it as a tattoo. Get it right the first time, or wear long sleeves and sweaters for the rest of your life.

The Different Ways To Engrave Gifts
For more than 60,000 years, engraving has been used to make life more intimate. Whether it’s your private collection of trophies or your favourite signet ring, custom engraving makes it special.
And like most things today, you can have it in record time – 35 seconds per ring with our laser engraver.
HAND-ENGRAVED GIFTS
Hand-made engraving is a true type of art. Since this work is done by a professional craftsman, the result may not be as precise or standardised as a laser engraving.
The attraction of hand-engraving comes from its old-world charm and distinctive character. But all this charm comes at a cost, both in time and money.
ROTARY ENGRAVED GIFTS
Rotary engraving uses a computer-controlled spinning cutter which results in accurate engraving. It is widely used for metals like gold, sterling silver, steel, and copper.
The biggest downside of this method is that it cannot be extended to heat-sensitive materials. The friction caused by the process heats up and can damage delicate jewellery containing plastic, glass or fragile gemstones.
LASER ENGRAVED GIFTS
Laser engraving uses a laser (you guessed it!). A highly concentrated laser beam generates heat during the engraving process and vaporises the material it hits – leaving you with your personalised message. It’s incredibly fast and provides a wider range of fonts, symbols and styles.
This technique can be applied to metal, stone, leather and wood and provides precision and consistent readability. The process can be repeated in order to form deeper marks.
We use laser engraving at Issy because it’s perfect for stuff worn a lot. Unlike hand or rotary engraving, there is no actual tool in contact with the material. This means that there is less risk of product degradation or deformation.
Is laser engraving going to wear off, or is it going to be permanent? The durability of the engraving depends on the material in the piece. Some softer metals (like gold and silver) are easily scratched, and the gravure can dim in time. Engravings on hard metals, such as tungsten, stainless steel and titanium, can last a lifetime.
ENGRAVED PERSONALISED GIFTS FOR MEN
It doesn’t matter whether you’re shopping for your dad, your brother, your best friend, or a wedding party member, every guy appreciates a thought-provoking gift.
And nothing is more remarkable than custom engraving made for him.

FAQ’s
Is Etching & Engraving The Same Thing?
There are a number of different styles of etching. The most popular is the use of crystal and glass and needs high acidity.
When it comes to jewellery, etching may also apply to laser etching (a laser engraving subset). In this process, the laser heat melts the surface of the material. The material vaporises and produces a cavity during laser engraving.
Laser etchings are not as durable as engravings because they are not as deep, and they are best suited to surfaces that suffer low levels of wear.
How Much Does Engraving Cost?
The cost of the engraving depends on the length of your message and the form of engraving used – by hand or machine.
If you have any specific cost questions, please contact us and let’s talk!
How Are Initials Engraved Onto Gifts?
If you have something engraved for yourself, there is no rule – write your initials however you want them to appear.
If engraving is part of a gift, you’re going to want to make sure he immediately knows his initials and doesn’t ask, ‘Um… What does that say?’.
When engraving a man’s jewellery, we suggest using the initials in the first, middle and last order. For example, Hans Christian Andersen would have been an H.C.A.
You will want to add a full stop after each letter H.C.A. or HCA (without a full stop after the last letter).
If you buy a gift for a married couple (or soon-to-be-wed), the initials should be given in the following order: the first initial of the bride, the surname of the couple, and the first initial of the groom.
For example, C.A.H. would be Hans Christian Andersen and Connie Nielsen.
If the choice exists, you could also select a monogram style and have a surname.
What is The Best Font To Engrave Gifts With?
If you are allowed to select a font, choose one that is simple and easy to read. The very last thing you want is to order a pair of engraved cufflinks and not be able to read the engraving.
What Should I Engrave Jewellery With?
The intention for all the engravings is to keep the message short, straightforward and accurate. Many engraving services have a limited character that forces you to concentrate your thoughts and your message.
When engraving a bracelet or ring, consider the available surface area and the place of the engraving.
Is there anything else on the ring that is going to interfere with your customised message? Some of the pieces have the form of metal etched (S.S.T., 9K, etc.) – how is it going to work with your text?
Take a look at our suggestions for engraving ideas above. Do you see something that interests you?
Can Engravings Be Engraved Over?
Over time and wear, the engravings on soft metals (silver and gold) fade away. It is possible to engrave the original in order to bring it back to life.
If you choose a completely different form of engraving, it depends on the type of metal and the depth of the engraving. Soft metals may be polished and engraved again and again if need be. Harder metals, like that of stainless steel, are not so easy to repair.
Plated jewellery is difficult because polishing the metal removes the outer coating and exposes the metal beneath the plating.
Most of the engraving defects were attributed to misspellings. Make sure you’ve entered yours right because you don’t want to change it later.
Can Stainless Steel Be Engraved?
With the laser engraving machine, it is simple to engrave on stainless steel. Everything can be etched from stainless steel cufflinks to rings.
Can Plates Jewellery Be Engraved?
The simple answer to that is yes. The complicated response is that any piece of jewellery needs to be tested to decide if the plating is thick enough to engrave, or if the metal underneath the plating will show through when engraved.
Is There A Character Limit For Personalisation?
The number one limit for engraving is the limit of characters. This limit is chosen by the supplier to ensure that you don’t have a tiny cufflink with Technotronic’s ‘Pump Up the Jam’ lyrics.
At Issy, we set a limit of 20 characters. The right sum to look nice on the ring, the tie clip or the bracelet.
What Are The Most Common MIstakes On Personalised Gifts?
The most common errors are incorrect names or words and wrong dates.
Dates can be represented in various ways – day, month, year versus year, month, day – so be sure that the format you have selected is easy to read and simple. Double-check your spelling before clicking the send button.
